Do I Have a Problem? (The Answer is Yes, but I need Validation)

First of all, I'd like the start this blog off by congratulating myself; I now have level 5 endorsement on the game, Overwatch. With the update on October 31, they changed the decay, so now you're not penalized for playing with friends or people who might've endorsed you in the last 24 hours.

That being said, I think I'm addicted to videogames. Like all addictions, trying to take a break from it or even quit cold turkey, makes me want to play more. I've never been one to getting addicted to substances or alcohol or anything like that, although, I can't cut caffeine out of my life. Videogames have taken a hold on me, more specifically Overwatch.

While I tend to enjoy other popular games, such as Fortnite, Apex Legends, Infinite Warfare (I'm not old, just sentimental; plus I like Zombies in Spaceland way more than I like to admit), I can't shake the thrill of grinding for competitive points in ranked matches.

I started Overwatch the first time back in 2020, where as a "noob", my friend taught me the ways of this character named D.Va. She shoots infinitely and her ultimate (pressing triangle on my ps4 at the time, now ps5) is a big bomb, killing anyone in the vicinity. I quit after probably a month attaching myself back onto Fortnite and Apex, where I see-sawed around until their game base got real "sweaty" or try-hard.

I restarted up Overwatch in March of 2023, when I had lost my job of 4 years of blood, sweat, and tears. Dropping more tears at this loss, I found friendship within the game and took to competitive. In competitive matches, there's multiple types of maps just like regular matches, or quickplay. Within these matches, you have a chance to earn competitive tokens or a type of currency you can buy gold guns with and have that cosmetic show for you and everyone else in game.

                                    Ex.

Not only can you see them while fighting, your teammates and your enemies can see them, and they show up in highlight videos and the victory pose (if your team wins). It'd been something I've been so focused on, I now have 8 golden guns from my top 8 heroes, and I'm halfway to my 9th. That's 9 guns within 10 months....almost 1 gun a month. It's 25 points tops for a WIN in ranked, and it's 3000 points to spend on a gun. I have spent way too much time on this game (and will continue to do so, lol).

I feel like this introduction has probably thrown some of you off, maybe wanting to flee from my presence, which is perfectly fine. I just need to ask one thing...do I have a problem?

I mean, of course the answer HAS to be yes, but how much of a problem? Is this a healthy addiction? It doesn't cost money to play ranked matches, so is it worth it? Or do I need a different hobby?

I guess this whole start-up to this blog is to introduce myself, really.

Hi, my name is a legal first and last name, but you can call me Wolfy Skyes (Wolf/Wolfy for short), and unless you're the government, deal with it. 💅

BUT, I'm 26 years old, I'm 5'4, married and have 4 cats in my tiny apartment... WELCOME to my WORLD. 💕

UPDATE: I am now 27 years old, and I have 10 gold weapons (I got Kiriko's, lol)
